Speak Out to Keep Taxes From
Going Up on the Middle Class
If Congress fails to act before the end of the year, every American family’s taxes will automatically go up. A typical middle-class family of four would see its taxes rise by $2,200 starting in 2013.

My husband and I are both disabled and live on social security and social security disability. We have about $200 left in savings. Our total income is $3027 a month so we do not qualify for any government assistance. When the mandatory bills average at least $2032, we are left with $1000 to pay for Dr. visits, medicine, gasoline, food, clothing and EVERY OTHER LIVING EXPENSE.
We're forced to set our thermostat on 88 degrees during Texas summers, wrap up during winter months to stay warm and limit our food budget to basics. If we go out to eat at family celebrations, we share the least expensive dish on the menu. If we can't afford a medication, we don't take it. BUT most of all, less income means our being a bigger burden on our children and friends who magically come to our rescue those times we can't make ends meet. We worked all our life and it is humiliating to be so helpless. So... What do you think reducing our monthly income will do to us and those people who come to our rescue?
I see Congress, their salaries, their benefits, their WASTE, their complete disregard for the plight of people in this country and I want to puke, especially when they throw the blame on everyone else. These people have gotten us into the mess we are in, therefore, if anything is cut, let's start there. (A big perk will also be a tremendous reduction in our deficit!)
Make Congress reduce their salaries to those of a teacher. Force them to pay out of their own pockets for insurance, meals, flights, cars, staff, their set up and moving expenses. Take away their perks, their multiple offices, their retirements and ability to pass any legislation effecting them personally. Force them to live within the guidelines the bulk of American citizens are forced to live within. THEN... ASK US TO GIVE UP MORE...UNTIL THEN...WE WILL ONLY BECOME ANGRIER...
